What are Peptides for Skin?

Article Acne Head

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins in the skin. These short chains are able to absorb into skin’s surface layers to target collagen improving the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen is what gives skin structure, strength, firmness and smoothness. As the body ages, collagen production slows down, leading to visible signs of aging – including wrinkles, sagginess and crepey texture.

While peptides are a natural component of our skin, they can be challenging to stabilize and deliver in cosmetic topical applications. Fortunately, scientists have been able to create peptides that can be absorbed into the skin’s surface, remain intact and can provide targeted benefits for a multitude of skincare concerns.

The most popular peptides include pentapeptides which target collagen; hexapeptides to reduce the appearance of wrinkles; palmitoyl oligopeptide and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 to target collagen and hyaluronic acid and help protect against UV damage; and copper peptides to soothe the skin. Peptides are ideal for all ages and all skin types.
